On July 1st, we celebrate Keti Koti in the Netherlands. Meaning ‘broken chains’ in Sranantongo, this day commemorates the 1863 abolition of slavery in Suriname and the Dutch Antilles.
As the son of Surinamese parents, our founder Guillaume Philibert has instilled a strong connection to his heritage within Filling Pieces. To emphasise these ties, we have made an exclusive football jersey with which we want to celebrate the unity of the Surinamese community and commemorate this special day.
For Keti Koti and the release of the Unity For Suriname jersey, we have invited several talents of Surinamese descent to join us in a fundraiser.
Our collaborating talents were captured wearing the jersey in a studio in Amsterdam by Surinamese photographer, and all around brilliant creative, Gyatso Davids. Celebrating the Surinamese diaspora and raising awareness for its influence in popular culture. All proceeds from the sale of our new jersey will go directly towards an important surinamese charity, the Ilonka Elmont Foundation.
The Ilonka Elmont Foundation supports, implements and promotes sport development projects by giving underprivileged children and children with special needs the chance to sport and play in a socially safe environment.
